Summary
Christians are like amphibious creatures. We are, “in the world… not of the world,” to use Jesus’ words. The world runs on competition, self-indulgence, and power, and yet we are encouraged to a different kind of life. We communicate our faith not by force or charm or brilliance… but through words which—at first—sound weak and foolish. We offer the cross to a dying world, for in it is resurrection life, a counter-intuitive alternative to the evil and death all around us. The early Christians lived by different rules than the surrounding culture. Through them, Jesus turned the world upside down. We pray that our Lord would do the same in our lives today.
