The Reorienting Truth and Grace of Jesus

Summary
Too often we seek to interpret God’s feelings towards us from our current life experiences. We convince ourselves that if things are going well, He must be looking with favor. If things aren’t going so well, we must have done something wrong. In the Gospel reading today, Jesus confronted some difficult stories of tragedy, and yet what was more tragic was the assumption that somehow these individuals had done something to deserve it. Jesus uses this situation to redirect us back to the fact that everyone needs to repent. We have all taken paths that have led us the wrong direction. It is only as we turn in faith to Christ that our lives can truly be turned around by the grace, mercy, and peace of our Savior.
