The Power of Words

Passage: James 3:1-12

Preacher: Pastor Kurt Ebert

Series: Pentecost

Category: Calvary Lutheran Church

Keywords: truth, fear, encouragement, tongue, anger, words, lying, wrath, cursing, affirmation, hate

Summary

How much trouble can something as little as the tongue cause? We know from experience how much good or bad the tongue can accomplish. Have you considered the power of your words lately? They have enormous power to build up or tear down. But most importantly we have a powerful word of grace and gospel in our Lord Jesus Christ. In the midst of a world filled with words of anger, words of lies, and words of fear, we have a strong word that bespeaks us “righteous,” for we have the grace-filled words of Jesus Christ, who has come to transform not just our lips and our tongue, but to transform our entire lives by his free gift of grace.
