Summary
Jesus tells us Mark 8 that if we really want to be His disciple, we have to take up our own cross and follow Him. Those around Jesus at the time, and the church today, see the cross from very different perspectives. For those around Jesus in the moment, taking up their cross was a death sentence. Today, knowing about Jesus resurrection, we see that Jesus invitation to the cross was not a life sentence, but is an invitation to life.
