Summary
How are we supposed to understand Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness? We may be able to learn a thing or two from Jesus’ example in the wilderness temptation story, but if we focus on learning from Jesus’ example, we’ll miss the point! There’s no way we could perfectly follow Jesus’ example here, for if we were presented with the same temptations, we’d struggle! Jesus’ temptation is one part—an important part—of his broader ministry. It demonstrates his wisdom, strength, and deep love for us. He resisted temptation so that he could be that spotless lamb for us.
