PART of HIS STORY

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of the darkness into his marvelous light.  (1 Peter 2:9)

Good Advice

One phrase that I remind myself of before proceeding with any project that requires cuts to be made is to “measure twice, cut once”. My dad shared this statement with me in a variety of applications. The more expensive the material the more measuring that I do before cutting. And if I do not know the exact length because of difficult measuring space, I will cut it slightly longer. Once you cut a piece of wood, fabric, or plastic it is impossible to make that piece longer. A cut made without proper preparation may impact the cost of the project.

“Measure twice, cut once” is sound advice as we communicate as well. We are called to speak the truth in love. Seeking the Lord prior to these conversations is an essential step. Love is the binding ingredient. Love makes even “short cuts” long again. I am sure that we all have let words slip out of our mouths wishing that we could take them back. We also need to measure correctly. Measuring a piece of wood that won’t be used is a waste of time. We are to focus on direct communication. As our Parent Teacher Conferences are continuing, we have a grand opportunity to “measure twice and cut once” for the good of each child. We build upon the partnership of church – home – and school as Part of His Story.
