“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which
clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1
After the Horse is Out
After numerous oil changes under my truck, I have learned some important lessons. Each time I changed the oil I would lacerate my left forearm on the catalytic converter shield as the oil wrench slipped. Now I wear a long-sleeved sweatshirt providing a remedy. Often oil drips would stain the driveway. A larger piece of cardboard is now placed under the truck to help catch the errant oil spills. Dirt and debris have fallen in my face while under the truck during past oil changes. Now goggles are worn helping to prevent dirt from entering my eyes. We use the expression of closing the barn door after the horse has already escaped. Just like taking precautions from prior life lessons on oil changes we are to apply into practice what we have learned (that’s why they have oil change
businesses might be in your thoughts) .
God tells us to not only hear His Word, but to put it into practice. God’s Word provides for us a set of boundaries. We live to His glory as we live our lives in the application of His Word. The great news is that even after the “horse” has escaped the barn, God loves us and forgives us. Life is a neverending provider of experiences. God provides these experiences for our growth and edification. We place these lessons into action as our faith is witnessed. May God’s Word permeate our lives as we first seek His Kingdom.
