A four-week book discussion will be presented in the EPIC Center Library at the 9:30 hour on Sundays, January 15th, 22nd, 29th, and February 5th. We will be reading and discussing the book, Whistling Past the Graveyard, by Susan Crandall. The book is set in the South during the early 1960s, at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. The story follows an unlikely pair, a white 10-year-old girl and a black woman, who meet up unexpectedly and motor across Mississippi and Tennessee in a beat-up pickup truck, on what becomes a pilgrimage to Nashville. On the way, they encounter many dangers and kindnesses, and develop a bond that is unbreakable. Our readers will join them in their journey!
The local libraries have copies of the book, and we will make copies available to those who wish to purchase one, (gently used) for $4.00.
