The Opioid Crisis: The Science of Addiction
— Dinner Program
Tuesday, April 17, 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Guest Speaker:  Clayton Sparks MS, LAC, LMHC, Program Manager, Gallahue Community Support Services

Calvary is partnering with Community Health to host a series of educational events about the Opioid Crisis, in order to increase awareness and provide educational opportunities that assist in prevention, create understanding and encourage  compassion. Addiction is a chronic disease condition, not a personal failing.
Did you know that drug overdose is now the most common cause of death for Americans under the age of 50?   In 2015, over 33,000 Americans died due to opioid overdose. To put this number in perspective, opioid-related deaths now outnumber car crashes and gun-related deaths in the United States.

This is a free event.  Pizza & Salad will be provided, thanks to Community Health Network & Thrivent Financial, starting at 6:00 pm in Calvary’s south narthex.

Guest Speaker Clayton Sparks is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor with over 20 years’ experience. He has worked in correctional settings as well as community mental health, with both adolescents and adults suffering mental health and addiction issues. Mr. Sparks is currently Program Manager at Community Health Network in Community Behavioral Health.
