    The "WOW" Factor

When considering the impact of a person, an activity or event, one typically thinks about the “WOW” factor — an amazing outcome resulting from a person's work, a life-transforming event or experience. A common way to measure impact begins with assigning a dollar value to a program, activity or task.

Independent Sector — a national coalition of non-profit organizations, foundations and corporate giving programs — has calculated the value of a volunteer hour at $24.14. Talk about "WOW" factor-level impact!

But when ministry leaders are asked about the value of a volunteer to a ministry or church, the response isn’t about the cost savings. It’s about inspiration fueled by the enthusiam of volunteers, the example of Christ’s love that the volunteer shows and how precious his or her gifts are to the ministry and the work of the Church.

See what our ministry leaders are saying about the value of volunteers on the LCMS Leader Blog.

    THE REAL "WOW" FACTOR!

The real "WOW" factor of volunteerism? The servant hearts of volunteers!

Many volunteers say, “You do not need to thank me. I love to serve and help others. It makes me feel good to know what I am doing is purposeful and adding value to someone’s else life.” That is the true beauty of a servant’s heart — one who gives of himself not for the recognition, the accolades or the giveaways. A servant's heart holds dear the inherent joy that comes with helping others.

May God continue to bless you in your service, and may the joy of service continue to fill your servant’s heart.
